Proteas came back hard at The Hosts to win the Lord's ODI

South Africa beat came back hard at England at Lord's beating the hosts by a margin of 7 wickets to have a consolation win in this ODI series. Having been unsuccessful in their first 3 attempts, this win came as a maiden ODI win for South Africa at this venue.

This win is very important for the Proteas going in to the Champions Trophy to boost their confidence after losing the second ODI in Southampton from a position where they can win it easily.

Though England have won the 3 - match series by a margin of 2 - 1, Proteas head coach Russell Domingo feels that his team headed in the right direction to win the 3rd and final ODI. Here is what he spoke after their crucial win.

“Every international game has importance. Whether we are two-nil up or two-nil down, we try to approach it with the same sort of intensity. There have been a lot of benefits and a lot of positives in the last two games that we can take through towards the Champions Trophy. I’m happy with the way things have panned out for us today.” Russell Domingo after the Lord's ODI.

“He (Morkel) only bowled four overs. He hasn’t played a one-day international in a while, it’s good to have him back. He has had a long injury and a long lay-off and the players who have played in his absence have done really well. I always felt it to be fair to them to give them first bite. Morne is a quality bowler and it is great to have him back in the mix,” the South African coach said about Morne Morkel.

“We have really good players, amazing talents and experience as well. We have been playing good cricket, if we had won the game before we would have won the series. To win this game will give us confidence and I feel the team goes into the Champions Trophy feeling strong. We have great names and if we play well we can win this,” concluded Domingo.
