WACA to host its final Test Match!

The Perth Ashes Test will be held at the WACA after the Western Australian government revealed that the new Perth Stadium would not be ready for the December fixture.

WA Sports Minister Mick Murray today (May 10) said the 60,000-seat stadium located in Burswood would not be finished in time to host the third Test, which starts on December 14. Apart from the Perth Test, tickets for the series have been released to the public.

Cricket Australia officials had expressed hope that Perth Stadium could host the historic fixture with chief executive James Sutherland saying on Monday (May 8) that he remained "really optimistic".

However, with Perth Stadium off the cards, it means the WACA will host its final Ashes Test - 47 years after the historic England and Australia match during the iconic ground's Test debut. Eventually, Perth Stadium will host all international cricket matches involving England, South Africa and India, and Big Bash League games, as the WACA remodels into a 15,000 spectator 'boutique' stadium.
