
In a mojor move, Sri Lanka have left out their middle order batsman Dinesh Chandimal after he scored just 12 runs in 2 games in Champions Trophy. Thisara Perera who dropped Sarfraz Ahmed which let Sri Lanka miss their semi final spot in the Champions Trophy 2017 is also left out.
Sri Lanka have in total left out 8 players from their Champions Trophy squad. Dhananjaya de Silva, Nuwan Kulasekara, Suranga Lakmal, Seekkuge Prasanna, Chamara Kapugedera and Kusal Perera are the others.
The omission of Chandimal is the most surprising one of the eight who are left out, as he had been Sri Lanka best batsman in ODIs in 2016. Last year, Chandimal accumulated 656 runs in 13 innings at an average of 59 with two centuries and six fifties. He was the 11th highest run-getter overall in ODIs in 2016.
"This squad is only for the first two games. We wanted to try out a few younger guys and he is very much in our plans for the remaining games," said Asanka Gurusinha, SLC Manager.
