Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday (June 27) announced the outcome of the Disciplinary Inquiry held against national player Lasith Malinga with regard to his breach of Tour Contract.SLC appointed a three-member disciplinary committee with Malinga pleading guilty of breaching his contract with the board by speaking to the media without permission.
The special inquiry panel comprised of Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mr. Mohan de Silva and its Chief Executive Officer Ashley de Silva and Chairman Disciplinary Committee Asela Rekawa AAL, found the player guilty of breach of contract after an inquiry held at SLC Headquarters where Malinga accepted the charges levelled against him and tendered a formal apology.
The finding were subsequently reported to a specially convened Executive Committee this evening, who imposed a sentence of a 1 Year suspension, suspended for six months (whereby the punishment would be imposed in the event of a similar infraction within the stipulated 6 month period) and a 50% fine of his next ODI match fee.
Sri Lanka Cricket's decision will have no impact on Malinga's availability for the Zimbabwe ODI series as he was already named in the 13-member squad for the first two ODIs.
