Dean Elgar to lead at Lord's; Faf ruled out

Cricket South Africa have officially announced that Faf du Plessis has been ruled out due to the family reasons of the first Test match of the 4 match series against England at Lord's. Dean Elgar will lead South Africa in his absence.

Faf flew home from England after the Champions Trophy campaign to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.


"Faf's wife gave birth to their first child last week but the difficult nature of the delivery has delayed his return to the UK," Proteas team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said.

"The mother and baby have settled at home, but he [Faf du Plessis] will be unable to make it back in time to take part in the first Test match. He will link up with the squad in the UK later this week," he added.

Dean Elgar will become the 36th captain for South Africa in this longer format of the game and 12th captain since their readmission to international cricket in 1992.
