Sarfraz Ahmed is the 32th player from Pakistan to lead them in this longer format of the game.
"I take this opportunity to announce Ahmed as our Test captain in addition to one-day and Twenty20 captain," Khan said at a function held to honour the Champions Trophy winning side.
"I and Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq had decided already and I think this is the right time to declare it," he added.
The wicketkeeper-batsman, who has been leading Pakistan in limited-overs, has been asked to take over the leadership responsibilities in the longest format as well following the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq at the end of the West Indies tour in May 2017.
"I am honoured to be appointed Test captain. I will do my best to lift the team in all three formats and will not rest on Champions Trophy laurels," Sarfraz said at the ceremony.
Pakistan have defeated South Africa, Sri Lanka, England and India to win the Champions Trophy 2017 title under the leadership of Sarfraz Ahmed.
