West Indies legend and 2-time ODI World Cup winning captain Clive Lloyd will be ringing the 5-minute bell to signal the start of play on the opening day in the 3rd Test. The ringing of the five-minute bell by an international cricketer, administrator or well-known enthusiast of the sport at a Lord’s major match is a recent tradition which was introduced in 2007.
The bell, which is located outside the Bowlers’ Bar of the Pavilion at Lord’s, is rung to signify the imminent start of play, and it is considered a great honour to be invited to ring it on the morning of a match.
MCC President Matthew Fleming said, “We are anticipating another very special occasion at Lord’s and I am delighted that the stands look set to be full for the culmination of this fascinating Test series.
"Few would have predicted, after Edgbaston, that the Wisden Trophy would still be for the taking and it is testament to the resolve and grit of the West Indies that we now have a thrilling match in prospect.”
If West Indies go on to win the Lord’s Test, they will regain the Wisden Trophy, which has been held by England since 2009 and resides permanently in the MCC Museum at Lord’s.
